Scene views and simulation texts

When you click on a scene on your sim canvas, several icons appear. We call this the scene view.

The menu button 002.png here opens all of the scene’s content: the text, visuals and comments. We call this the scene content view. So, the content is available and text can be entered both from the small scene view (see above) and the larger scene content view (see below). However, the scene content view offers a larger set of options.

Scene content view

Access scene content view from the sim canvas by clicking on a scene and then on the menu button in scene view.

Main text

The Main text is the text your simulated character says. You can edit the text by clicking on it or clicking Edit.

Reply choices

You can edit the reply choices by clicking on existing text or clicking Add a choice.

You can immediately link the reply choices to scenes or create new scenes that are linked to the choice. Just click and drag the blue number or link button 02_001.png next to the choice text.

Feedback

Feedback is information that will appear before the scene starts and reply options are given. It is not said by the character and appears separately from what the character says. Usually this text is an evaluation or explanation in response to the choice that has lead to the current scene. The learner is prompted to click the Continue button. After that, the learner sees the character’s reaction. You can edit feedback by clicking on its text. Don’t forget to click Save after you’ve added or updated any of the text.

If there is no feedback text, feedback will simply not appear. But it is impossible to have a scene without the main text and at least one reply choice.

Player interface texts and translations

If you intend to use a language other than English in your simulations, you can use it not only in the previously described sim texts, but also in the player interface texts. These are system texts that the learner sees – text on buttons, names of emotions etc. You can access these texts from the sim canvas view.

Once you’ve entered the translations for the interface, you will be able to use these translations in future sims. Click Import translations and choose which of your sims you would like to import the translations from and they will appear in your currently opened sim project.

It is currently not yet possible to import sim text translations into BranchTrack. However, it is possible to:

  1. Export all the texts in your sim from Insights. The export will contain texts and scene and choice numbers.
  2. Then duplicate the sim.
  3. Use the scene numbers to find where to paste translated texts in the Insights of the duplicate sim that you wish to translate.
  4. Proofread and preview your newly translated sim.

Currently texts in BranchTrack cannot be formatted with bold, italics etc.
